Very sad, Last year USX had a spill, now Mittal Steel. I understand accidents happen, but I think it’s too often.
There needs to be a better safety plan or steps to prevent spills.

where exactly is Outfall 001 located?
Just taking a guess but believe this is the section of ditch that comes from the north under Rt. 12 in Burns Harbor near the trailer court. It runs all the way south into the east branch


I believe also this is correct. This is just upstream a short piece from the junction of salt creek and the little cal. Always knew it as the "grey water" as ben described. Always looked inviting to fish, though never fished in it.
Surprised I haven't heard of much steelhead mortality, they must be further upstream looking for cooler waters

Yep, as said above that is where the outfall 001 is, most anglers call it the graywater discharge

As far as steelhead mortality, there probably were not many (if any) killed, as the water temperature of Burns Ditch has been between 75 and 80 degrees for most of July and August - too warm for steelhead.
