I made the 400 mile trip to Lake Erie to fish with fellow Southenders “One More Time” and “Sea Ya”. We fished out of Turtle Point Marina. Fishing was good not great and for 2 and 1/2 days we picked away at them and got our fish. It was mainly a trolling trip even though we tried to get them drifting worm harnesses. The area we fished was the “K” and “L”can area. Basically the Locust Reef area. Fished with deep walleye bandits and number 9 and 11 deep Tail Dancers. The Tail Dancers were the hot lure. The hot pattern was “rainbow trout” on the tail dancers and chrome finished bandits. Fished off boards we ran them 30, 60,90, back at speeds 2-2.4 mph gps. We also caught catfish, goo’s, even a small perch. Weather was great and calm for 90% of the trip and about noon on Sunday the north wind blew in and ended our trip. Going again later on in June. Got a few pics to share.

Thing is we didn’t miss it. Friday was a normal day. Fished, cleaned fish, ate some pulled pork and fries and went to bed. Got up Saturday and got an introduction to an invasion of the things. Nothing was spared, houses, cars and trucks, boats, docks and even people were covered with them who were looking to remove them from their stuff. Looked like the fish and the geese were going to go on feeding binges. Made for a mess.

Ah, too bad, they are definitely irritating but make fishing tough. Great job getting what you did while they were hatching.

Nice job out there.  Try running some spoons in your trolling pattern,  spoon bite is hot now.  Nothing like being out on Erie!

Can I put you on the spot and ask you for my benefit and others new to Erie how you are fishing the spoons? Weighted lines, lead or coppers? Using snap on weight? Spoon sizes and colors? We did run a few spoons but only took 2 fish I think. Thanks for your input.
