I am not to versed in river fishing for them, but I would recommend Michigan City pier. Its located in Washington Park which is close to Blue Chip. (nice casino btw). Sept 14th should see Chinook (king) salmon around, along with coho and occasional Steelhead. Steelhead really heat up later in the fall and winter. The pier is a great shore access place.

I would cast spoons in the evening and into the night. Glow in the dark spoons made by moonshine would be my go to. Make sure you spool up with a ton of line, the fish are big this year. Watch the weather, a heavy south wind will bring cold water closer to shore which would attract more movement upstream. Also a heavy rain will help do the same thing. Those 2 events would be my go to for casting. They are a blast to catch on spinning gear, just be ready to run down the pier if you don't have a ton of line. ;)

Almost forgot to mention. Keep the spoon near the bottom and retrieve at a slow speed.

What Tim said above is probably your best bet if your unable to get out on a boat with anyone. The action at the pier will be hit or miss depending on the weather conditions but if its hot you will have a heck of a time!

Really appreciate the feedback guys! Is it going to be possible to land a big fish from the pier? I have watched a few videos where guys have extra long nets to pull this off but I will be without a net. - No room in the rental car. While I don't intend to keep any fish, I would love a quick picture.

As long as you stay on the concrete side then yes its close to the water line. People will also net for you If you ask them nicely. Lol good luck let us know how it goes good or bad. Fish are already starting to move up.

Wanted to give you guys an update. I fished MC pier for about 6 hours straight on 9/14. 5pm-11pm I hooked one fish that I never landed- broke my rod. I believe it may have been damaged during travel? The fish stayed on for about a minute but with no leverage it eventually came off. I was the only person to have any big fish on the entire evening. I did see a guy and his son catch a few bass and a woman caught a perch.

My travel took me around the lake to Sheboygan on Wednesday and Thursday. I fished another 6 hours off the south pier there on 9/15 from 3pm to 9pm. I saw several large fish caught including a 15 pound brown and a brown estimated at 30. Both were released. I also saw one 20lb king caught on a red eye shad- looked like a sinking rattle trap. I never had a hit but it was very fun to be around the others doing well. I helped the guy with the king- was a cool experience.

Even though I never landed a fish I am very interested in coming back. I haven't even experienced fishing that challenging. Even after 5 hours, I was still alert with anticipation but my casting arm was saying enough lol. Really appreciate the pointers given as well as the local help I received from fisherman on the piers. Never met anyone who wasn't willing to help or even share tackle. Great people!
