My feeling is that the Kings that were stocked in May of '17 (only in Trail Creek) are now roughly 3.5 years old and will be coming home. Caught a decent King a couple weeks ago in 90' of water. We'll see. Happy Hunting!

That's correct "Old School" What fishermen call four year olds in the summer have not yet had their fourth birthday (which they celebrate by spawning and dying- hell of a way to go.) Anyway - the "nearly" four year old run of Indiana kings this year will be at Michigan City. Next year 2021 it will be at Portage. After that the stocking quota was raised and both ports were stocked again. Who knows what will happen in the future.

BTW - Fish biologists say 20 to 30 percent of the kings spawn a year earlier than normal so there may be a few show up at Portage this year, but they won't be the full-sized "whoppers."

Also, some mature kings stray from their natal stream or stocking site which accounts for kings at Gary Light, New Buffalo and other locations not stocked. There's a slight chance one of those would show up at Portage or the Ship Canal at East Chicago. Fish those areas or spend the gas money on lottery tickets. About the same odds for success.
