I have never really targeted them on the kank, but bass when I bass fished a ton, I would catch one every once in while off downed trees / branches. My guess would be that and some holes around bridges etc, I am talking the Indiana side here - all I have experience with. Illinois side is better fishing since its in a natural state and not dredged out like Indiana. I am sure a few guys here are very experienced in what your asking for.
Boatless!

I'm not an experienced River Rat but I live amongst them - both the Kankakee and the Iroqois. Bridges, not so much since most of them span all the way across. A few (I only know of the RR bridge by US 41) have an in-stream abutment but I have heard of people fishing there for walleyes. Most guys target areas where major drainage ditches/natural streams trib into the main river for both pike and walleye at this time of the year.
