Cheapest price I've found to do a skull mount was $190. Anybody do them as a hobby?

My son does them and has done a really nice job. He has shown them to one of the top deer mount guys in the Chesterton area and was told that it was top notch and he couldn't do any better. We are leaving for a few days and I could hook you up with him when we are back. Not sure what his cost would be. I am sending you a PM with our email. I do have some pictures some where to look at.

Man, that does look done very well. There is a guy that lives 5 miles from me that does them for a 150/head. Does so many that it takes 8 or 9 months to get them though. I know they are quite popular but those types of mounts sort of creep me out. Even though they have become crazy expensive around here I still prefer the shoulder mount of a deer. Going rates around here are 600 bucks and up for mounting one in a sneak pose. To top it off there is one or two that know what they are doing and pretty well everyone else are hacks. You can take some of them a buck with a 30 inch neck and it will come back looking like an antlered doe.

I did my Euro mount myself, its really pretty easy to do. Throw it in a big pot of water, boil the skull clean, buy peroxide for the whitener or get it at your local beauty shop (90 %) I think and order a wood mount for it. Its a easy project for you.

Wow!! Yeah, he did a really nice job. I'd like to contact him after the holiday.

Wallin- Not so sure cooking a deer head or two will go over too well with the wife.

Triggerfinger we just got back in town will get you the information in the morning. There is a little to getting it done right. To much chemical can soften the bone and when dried out make it a little brittle. I think he said he has around 8 hrs. into doing right. Will get back to you in the morning. Thanks!

Ed,

He may not want to bother with it especially not being his own deer. This kit called Mountain Mikes sounds like a cheap, decent alternative for me. And, it's something I can do myself just by sawing off the antlers and screwing them on the replica skull. May end up being something I can do with other antlers and skull caps I have laying around too.

So, no worries if he's not interested or if cost would be high.
