Well any one in northern Indiana that deer hunts can say that opening day sucked. The weather was pretty bad for hunting. Sunday on the other hand was much better weather wise. I sat in 1 of my better stands until about 10AM and didn't see a deer. Heading back to camp had lunch and headed back out around 3PM eastern time. After 15 minutes of sitting looking down a pretty good hill across a cut corn field I saw some movement. After about 45 minutes of watching the things that bucks do (chasing the smaller ones away) the 1 pictured below stepped out and gave me a shot at 135 yards. The 44 mag ran true right through the heart. It was quite a sight to watch them almost better than the shot. Anyway he ran about 40 yards and fell over right in a low spot in the cut bean field. Called my farmer buddy who came right out with his UTV and away we went. This is my best buck to date. Isn't the biggest body but he has some mass to his beams. It was my second encounter with this 1 this year. The other 2 sightings were during bow season and he just wasn't close enough. Sorry guys I'm not sure why the picture is sideways.
Good luck to all. Tim

Another fine buck taken up there. If it makes it better for you it sucked here badly. 75 degrees with 50plus mph winds along with severe thunder storms made for a very forgettable opener. Sunday was very windy but clear and 30 degrees in the morning. We get some weird temp swings down south.
