Well I hunted last night amongst the rain mixed mist. I saw 2 different bucks still chasing does, and tried a very long field shot on a nice one. Liked to say I got him but, just like the Cubs there is always next year.

One of the bucks is the one pictured. Jim, my youngest son hunted the same stand this morning and this buck came back thru chasing a doe at first light. His thompson encore muzzle loader put the smack down on him from around 100 yards out with a front on shot.
The Hornady XTP made short work of him. He had a crazy little point that hung down tight to the head.

You'll get him next time Ed I'm sure of it! Congrats Jim!! Beautiful looking buck.

I shot one last Friday just haven't gotten around to posting it. I had encounters with this buck most of the week in the field. He messed up on Friday morning and followed a doe in the woods near my stand. I shot him at 40 yds.

Here is one for you guys. If you look back at the picture of my son Jim with his buck. There is a picture of a small point growing down along the head of the buck. Look forward of the eye area. See that dark area a couple of inches forward?
Well my son decided to do a European mount using the top half of the skull including top jaw. That dark spot is an old injury, found a satalite spreader head in the top part of the jaw with half the head sticking into the deers mouth. The shot was from a elevated stand as the trajectory clearly shows. The injury was not from this year and nobody that hunts with us uses satalite heads. Why some one would try to head shoot a deer with a spreader head is very confusing. Had problems a few years back with someone sneaking in, possibly they are back. What do you think DNR? This is Starke county. Only 1 buck allowed!

Here is a few pictures of Jims european mount. You can clearly see the arrow head in the deers jaw. Had to be a wound from either last year or before as the bone had been growing around the arrow head. Which meant that every time this animal ate the point of the head was in the inside roof of his mouth.
