TOPIC:

Took a trip out to a small local lake to knock the dust off my ice gear. Just took a hand auger, a bucket with essentials and one rod. Fished from 10am to around 3pm and the ice was 4" where I was but there were spots opened up just last week that were at 2" so there is sketchy ice out there. In the time I was fishing I saw 5-7 people show up and only 2 fish caught between them all. I myself had 9 gills, 3 nice crappies, a very nice redear and threw back a bass.
The difference? Asked around and everyone was using waxies on jigs and minnows on tipups. I haven't bought live bait in 3 years and was using gulp waxies tipped on a jig. The other contributing factor, in my opinion, drilled a dozen holes in an area I knew from years back to be productive right off the bat. Gave the holes time to settle since I was only in 10fow then began fishing. Pull a fish then hit the next hole, kept rotating around until guys started encroaching my area and decided it was time to go.
