I installed a Fish Hawk X4D a few days ago. It was pretty darn easy. I put the transducer between the kicker and main outboard which is not a desired location but some boats only have so much space. I made sure the separation was over 18" from my standard 83/200 transducer. The hardest part was determining where to put the head unit as I had very little real estate at the helm. I ended up finding a galvanized decking "L" bracket at home depot which worked perfect, drilled a few holes and I was in business.

Got to try it Saturday and it worked perfect.

Very nice. Been debating buying one for my boat. I know all the benefits just can't seem to part with the money yet. Let me know how you like it as the season progresses.

Parting with the $$ is the hardest part.

Now that you have it you will wonder how you ever fished without one.

on plane turns to left/port you may have a cavitation problem if this occurs move it back where the motor is mounted
transducer does not have to be in the water at planning speeds because you only use it for trolling and this alt mounting position will also protect the transducer from possible impact damage the bubbles the transducer makes if they get into the prop wash will cause cavitation of the prop

I was concerned about those very things frank. My transom has 3 steps and I mounted it on the second, so the bottom of the transducer ends up just above the true bottom. Had her up to about 53 mph with no issues on saturday. No cavitation, no spray, no lean - so I am happy as I was worried about the potential for all 3.
