We were able to get out yesterday for the first time in a year. Tried my radio at home on weather channel worked fine. Got to the lake turned it on it showed it was receiving but nothing coming across the speaker , the antenna and connections all looked fine. Any suggestions? Rudey

let me ask a stupid question
did you check the squelch button/
turn it all the way down you either have it turned up or the squelch is bad is a good guess

Yes I did, turned it all the way down and got high squelch sounds out of it. Turned it all the way up till sound went away. Rudey

Did you try the Weather channel again while on the lake? If you did and there was nothing coming across the speaker at the lake like at the house I would say you may have something loose associated with your speaker but since you did hear squelch noise most likely not. Also moisture on the speaker will affect how the speaker produces sound. As most radios do not use poly for there internal speakers the intense squelch may be audible where a lighter distant Rx vocal may not have enough vibration to be audible if the speaker is wet. Last thing right off the top of my head would be that the signals you were receiving were distant signals that indicated a Rx but out of range for the radio to process into an audible sound. With the time of the season and during the week most likely you were picking up a distant signal and with very little boat traffic there was nothing in your area going on to pickup and verify the radio actually working properly. Easy check would be check your Wx again and see if that is working, check it against a handheld if possible, and/or verify on a weekend or when you have a definite contact on the same channel when you are out fishing.

Thanks Jeff, a lot of good info on your post. I don't think it got wet it sits in my garage year round. I did try multiple channels including weather channel and received nothing. Several times it would stop on a channel and say busy but nothing coming across the speaker. I have always picked up Chicago and Michigan city without a problem in the past. The radio is five years old maybe it just died. LOL Rudey

If it does it again I would guess a solder joint on the speaker or antenna pin connection is bad and the time on the trailer or smacking the waves probably making and breaking connection. Keep a close eye on it.
