I have a pair of Big Jon electric downriggers on the stern that currently plug into bulkhead polarized jacks. Unfortunately, the way they're located, they get hit and kicked during a day's fishing and I've had to repair at least one of them after a few day's hard fishing. I'm thinking of switching to an inline plug so I have a loose cable that will come through a more appropriate area of the bulkhead and the plug will be in line rather than attached to the boat. That way, it's not the weakest point being beat on.

Anyone have good experience with an aftermarket connector? I'd like to go with something twist-lock, but need it to be water resistant at least if not waterproof.

Thanks!

I just used a regular 3 prong AC outlet. You don't need to worry about 12 v DC being completely water proof. The gound in not wired, just there to make sure you don't connect it in reverse or the motor will will work in reverse. Female plug goes to the source (battery) so you don't have a hot wire exposed and fuse it accordingly.

Disclaimer- This is what I did and have no problems but I am not a proffesional and should seek a proffesional if there are any quesions.

Mine are wired the same as off the hook. Have worked great for me also.

Was considering that. The ground would help ensure polarity gets right. Cheap solution as well.
