As is the annual tradition, had a statewide fish management meeting and the entire fish mgmt staff went fishing for wipers after dinner

Did pretty well and the bite lasted after dark - here's a few of the nicer fish we caught on the boat I was fishing in

Monroe Reservoir

Biologists just did a survey at Worster Lake in Potato Creek and found a ton of wipers, most in the 3-7 pound range, but a few up to 10 pounds. Something to check out for those in the northern part of the state. It isn't very well known for hybrid stripers, but they are growing fast and surviving well since first stocked in 2011

Looks like a good time. Congrats and thanks for the report. I've never tried fishing for them but certainly something to consider.

Those are some beauties. Those fish knocked quite a few points off my GPA when I was in school down there. They're an absolute blast on fly rods, only problem I had with them is they don't jump.

Correct me if I am wrong but I had heard that Stripers were originally considered for stocking in Lake Michigan but salmon were less expensive?

yes, striped bass were originally considered for stocking, although most of the references are to the "lower lakes" (today considered Erie and Ontario) because the upper lakes were considered as likely too cold for stripers. Not sure if Lake Michigan was truly on the list or not, but Tanner considered coho salmon better suited and the stripers more of a fallback option in case the salmon didn't work out
