I read that perch have recently arrived at the piers of Chicago and Calumet.  I also observe a couple of boat charters sharing their catch pictures online out of the Portage area. It seems that the fish arrive on a schedule.  I have fished in the summer and ice fished for perch but I don't know much about targeting perch in the winter before ice. I'm curious if pier fishing for perch is specific to a region or if I might find concentrations in any harbor around the southern end.  Would I have the same chances in St. Joe as I do in Portage, Chicago, or Milwaukee? Is it temp, bait, protection, or spawning that drives the fish to move into the harbors?  Thank you to anyone willing to share their experience or studies they've run across.

Edit:  I think I found my answer. www.in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/files/f...erch_Fishing_101.pdf
