TOPIC:

I took my uncle fishing out of SJ on Sunday morning to chase kings. We motored out to 90 FOW and set lines on a NW troll with following seas. Within a few minutes we hooked and landed a 4 lbs coho on a Dreamweaver Super Slim Rasta Goose on a 5 color leadcore in 105 FOW. A few minutes later we hooked a larger coho on a Dreamweaver Super Slim Glo Frog on a 100 copper, but lost him because I botched the net job. As soon as we hit 120 FOW the 5 color leadcore with the Super Slim Rasta Goose takes off again and is sizzling. We thought it was a king because he was ripping drag but ended up netting a beautiful skamania that did more than a few twirls for us on the way to the net and weighed 10 lbs wet. A few minutes later the 200 copper goes but nobody was home. The fishing died down for a while after that. We trolled out to 130 FOW and then 140 FOW without any action. We turned the boat around and after some deliberation decided to slowly pull lines before heading back to port into the chop. I picked up the wire diver rod to start reeling it in when we were in about 120 FOW when the downrigger rod fires. I put the wire diver rod back in the rod holder and hand the downrigger rod to my uncle. He fights a heavy fish for about a minute but loses it because it came unhooked. Then the wire diver suddenly takes off and we land a 12 lbs king on a Salmon Candy SGH flasher with Mercy UV fly. We ended up going 3/6. There were a few other boats further out, but not sure how they did.
