CHESTERTON, Ind. -- The swimming beach at Indiana Dunes State Park is closed until further notice because of an "unidentified substance" that was found in the water on Wednesday.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources closed the beach around 1:30 p.m. and say it will remain closed as a precaution until further notice.

IDNR’s Director of Communication Phil Bloom said samples were collected and turned over to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for testing. That testing could take some time.

Some areas of the beach will remain open for visitors but water access will remain closed until they can determine the identity and source of the substance that was found.

Well that sounds ominous. E.Coli? Blue-Green Algae? Chromium? Remains from Angry Pirate's pee bucket? I suppose we'll get word on Monday after the water-testers get back from their weekend break.
