I ordered some drag washer material on eBay and it turned out to be coming from Australia. Didn't notice that, but there's time until spring. Anyway that got me on their email news list which is interesting since they have unusual fish and go to places like "Barrenjoey" to fish. Crikey, mate!
So here's a photo of their downrigger. The reel is actually an electric, deep drop fishing reel, he said they spooled it with 30 pound braid and were fishing 80 meters (262 feet) with a 5 pound weight!

Have a go at that blokes! It's fair dinkum.....

Pretty simple setup. I wonder if it is cheaper to buy than a Cannon or a Scotty?

I wondered that myself. However, long ago, I heard a Dipsey Diver (and I'm thinking that was a regular diver with a small O ring) has a dive curve about the same as having a four pound sinker on the line. Don't know if that's true, but it's believable. So I often troll dipsey divers using 30# braid. Usually, I'm trolling maybe an average of 2.5 mph. Get's my diver down there, but I wouldn't want my 'riggers blowing back that much. So I can only guess it would be used much more often when drifting or slowwwwww, trolling with bait.
