This past Thursday, John Warren Capt. KingSeeker Charters and myself visited the Mixsawbah fish hatchery. The little kings are growing fast and have been moved from their inside tanks to the outside ponds.

Steelhead have been hatched and are in the inside tanks now. This was a return trip for myself and I handed over to Rob Ackerson the thank you letter that was presented and signed at the Indiana workshop.
Mixsawbah is Indiana's King factory with all kings that get stocked coming from the there.. It is really something to see how fast our little kings grow.

Anyone care to take a guess at how much food our little kings are eating daily????
Stocking will be approx. a month from now.

Gosh, 750 lbs a day?

Please tell us. I'm very curious! I have my own pond and feed my fish.

Right now they are feeding just to the young kings,70lbs. of feed daily. Feed comes in 40lb. bags at the cost of $231.00.per bag. So do the math for a bag and a half daily.
I was told that quarterly they go thru 10,000lbs per quarter. 

Wow! We need to help them! If they are paying $231.00 per bad someone is making a terrific amount of money! I buy fish food to feed the fish in my pond and I've never spent more that $60.00 a bag. I can buy fish food for salmon and trout for the same price. But, if I were buying this much feed I'd buy it by the bundle or train load and I'd spread it across the state and its cheaper yet! Someone isnt doing the job they should be.

With this kind of quantity I can have my own feed mixed and add whatever to biologist recommends.

I'd also install automatic feeds if they haven't already.

I made a phone call and spoke with Kent Wetzle. We talked for 20 minutes but he couldn't access the information regarding feed because of the damage from last night's storms so I'm going to call him back on Tuesday. Rob doesn't work weekenders and Ken is the assistant manager at this hatchery.

Turns out the state buys their fish food from the same place I buy my fish food.

I'll provide an update after our discussion on Tuesday April 4th 2023.
