A mere five/one hundreds' (.05) of a pound was the winning difference in the Pro division of the Hoosier Coho Club Pro/Am on Saturday.
Captain Arnie Arrendondo and crew aboard Phoenix from Kenosha, Wis., edged Michigan City team Roll Me Away, skippered by John Nowka, 63.60 pounds to 63.55 in the weigh-best-five scoring. Crorkindill (Steve Kreighbaum, Michigan City), placed third with 62.75 pounds.
The Am side was tight too, with a trio of Michigan City teams fishing in the money. The King Machine crew of brothers Todd and Carl along with dad Bob won with 47.6 pounds. Salmon Hawk (Carter Elenz) 47.25 and Oakley (Jeff Dabkowski) 44.75 placed second and third.
Big fish was a 15.2 laker caught aboard Fuzzy Bear in the Pro and a 14 pound lake trout aboard Salmon Hawk on the Am side.
Mostly it was a laker contest, with the best trout fishing near bottom in 70 to 90 feet of water. Several boats reported big numbers of coho, but there were zero chinook caught among the 31 boats in the seven hour contest.
"A white Spin Doctor and white Howie fly," Arrendondo said, when asked about his best laker set up. "Silver (Spin Doctor) with a green fly was good, too."
Complete results should be up at www.hoosiercohoclub.org soon.
The Hartman Memorial is set for Friday and serves as a final tune-up for the 42nd annual Hoosier Coho Club Classic April 30-May 1.

First time fishing the Pro / AM and overall it was a fun event and good day of fishing. Was skeptical with the weather on Friday but the 2 hour delay was definitely the right call the morning of. We selected and weighed in our heaviest obligatory Lakers and a Coho (only a 2-man team) and it was funny to hear some teams talking about not even trying for anything other than Lakers with not a single line more than 20 foot of the bottom. I guess its the way its going to be for our lake in the next few years. Looking forward to trying the Classic, and being able to fish the U-24 division with other small boats, as well as the challenge of a limit on Lakers at the weigh in. Fingers crossed with the weather.
