Made our annual pre-Memorial Weekend trip to Erie last week. Drove over Sunday morning, lines in the water by 2 - ish, Eastern time. HQ was South Bass, Island.  Agenda for first afternoon is to scout for fishing spots and catch a few fish. Also to get in early enough to not get the wive's P.O.ed for coming in a dark, wanting dinner.
Beautiful weather on Sunday, found a few fish immediately north of Rattlesnake Island and picked on them as we refined our tactics - two  newbies on the boat. I rang the end of shift bell at 6PM and we ended up with 21 walleyes. Plenty of light to finish the limit, but I didn't want to start the trip on a bad footing back at the cottage.
Nice weather the next day with increasing winds. Steady pick all morning until we had our limit then we scouted the shallows for smallmouth or gaspergoos for fun. Water a little cold for the bass to be spawning. Caught one smally and one walleye. Here comes the wind!
Sunny hot and windy. Stayed between Middle bass and North Bass Islands with a steady pick by midday. Cold front coming.
Wind switched to Northeast 15 to 20. Three to five footers in the north passage between South and Middle Bass. Snuggled into a quiet spot along west edge of Middle Bass. Never fished there. Pouring rain and 45 degrees. I was considering eggs and bacon on shore when we caught one, then another. Gotta stay.
Moved to a new spot closer to North Bass, still a limited comfy fishing area and we picked our way to another limit. We did boat a big gaspergoo!
Thursday, ENE winds at 20+. Didn't even know if we would launch, but the launch at the State Park on the west shore was calm. Couldn't fish more than a quarter mile from the island, but I found a track that kept us at the 30' contour and we found a winning combo of Deep Hit Stick 12s on the boards and stickbaits on Dipseys and 'riggers that produced limits by 11 so we called he ladies and took them out for lunch on our last afternoon at the Island.  [
