You should have a weather button on your radio? Most of us use 68 for talking when we are on the lake.

What Bob said and 16 is Coast Guard/Emergency and I believe 9 is also designated emergency. Basically I stay on 68 unless I want to listen to the boats talking to the bridge operators and docks. Weather channels I just scroll through until I hear a report near me but weather is a separate set of channels.

Is there a consensus on brands of track and rod holders I should think about installing on my boat? I've looked at several brands. I am not interested in buying whatever is cheapest because I do want quality equipment. But I do need to consider the budget. I think initially I'd like to be able to run three rods on each side of the boat.If I have to downsize my initial setup to get quality gear, I'm ok with that. I'm not sure how much track I should get for each side, but I guess that'll come down to whether I want to go with three individual rod holders or a three-rod tree on each side. Too many decisions, considering I don't have an unlimited supply of funding for this new habit.

I have Berts and from what I have seen, I think traxtech is nicer. It appears to be a little heavier duty, and has a better look imo. I think its more expensive too, but not sure.

Either way, the Berts I have has done its job with no issues.

I have Traxstech tracks on my boat and they are the by far the heaviest material. I have Cannon and Berts rod tree mounts that use an 18 inch piece of their track. The Cannon track is the next heaviest then the Berts. The traxstech and the cannon track ought to last forever. Yes the Traxstech is also the most costly.
