Hello , Ive been looking to purchase a lake michigan fishing boat, Ive looked at a 1988 starcraft 22ft cutty cabin , its clean and looks like it has been taken care of , but it
has a OMC/cobra out drive many people are telling me thats bad , parts hard to find ,and much more expensive than Mercury outdrive . please let me know what you think..
thanks

If this is the boat I'm thinking it is (fiberglass starcraft out of napanee?) it's a beautiful boat and looks awesome but there's a reason for the low price tag and the motor most likely would be it. Boat like that with a mercrusier would easily go for double. Not gonna say it's a bad deal but I'd make sure you know what you're getting into before making a deal on a boat like that.

SEA TRIAL IT YES SOME PARTS ARE HARD TO GET BUT NOT MOST WEARABLE PARTS BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THESE BOAT WAS NOT MANY FACTORY TRAINED MECHANICS AROUND TO PROPERLY CARE FOR THEM A MERCRUISER GUY WOULD BE A BAD CHOICE FOR YOUR MECHANIC THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND CONTRARY TO POPULAR OPINION A BETTER DRIVE IF NEVER TOUCHED BY A MERCRUISER MECHANIC

My last boat which I bought new in 1989; had to replace stringers and transom due to rot after 20 years. My next boat I made sure the stringers and transom were made out of green board.
