Very cool surprise! It seems a couple of these are caught each year lately. Maybe we should start trolling Medusa’s or double 12 cowgirls at 5 mph and see what happens. Lol

Man, what a trophy! I'd love to know the history of that fish and where it came from: too bad it didn't have a tracker on it! LOL! Looks like a healthy green bay musky to me, but who knows! Truly a trophy right there. Curious if Ben has any insight into where this fish could have wandered into the lake from? One of the rivers maybe?

That's a really nice sized one!

Pretty much impossible to say where it might have originated from. Could have been from Green Bay stockings, could have been from Michigan drowned river mouth stockings, could have been naturally reproduced somewhere. It's entirely possible that there is some low level wild reproduction happening in pockets around southern Lake Michigan. Inside the Port of Indiana could be a possibility, for example. Muskies have been around in low levels down here for at least a couple decades. There's been a musky or three caught every year caught near the Port, EC, Michigan City the past few years. Seems to be either an uptick in population - or quite possibly, just higher ability to notice them due to the proliferation of social media

Some have speculated that the clearing water, increasing weed growth in protected harbors, and changing fish community has favored slight increases in esocids (pike and musky) in nearshore waters, as they are sight feeders and ambush predators
