Started out from Senior Center (just east of Lighthouse) at 7:30 a.m. - red hot, doubles and triples. 20 in live well on first drift (15 min.) then slowed, but were close to two-man limit so motored across Michigan line. Finished with 50 in 38-40'. Kept lots of 7-8", only a half-dozen were 9" or better.

How do you account for the 50 if you launch in Indiana? Wouldn't DNR have a fit about that? Wouldn't you have to launch from Michigan to be able to do that?

I asked this question to a CO and it’s not illegal to launch in MC, fish in Michigan waters and limit then bring fish back to MC to clean. I like having a cleaning station in MC but I also like the Michigan limit. I was told no problem but be prepared to show documentation. I always show trails and that would suffice according to the CO I was talking to.

I asked a CO if returning to MC with a Michigan limit of Perch caught in New Buffalo would be a problem and was told "not as long as you weren't seen fishing in Indiana". Seems that leaving Indiana to increase your catch in Michigan may be legal but could create problems if you were seen fishing in Indiana.

I know its legal to launch out of MC and go to Mich and get your limit and then return back to the launch at MC.
But he said he fished in Indiana then went to Mich then came in.
Every C.O. will judge this one different.
I'm not sure I would take the chance.

Nothing illegal done, and some in the DNR may not like but I believe this was settled a decade ago. Can't stop/fish in Ind. with a Mich. limit aboard (nor any perch beyond 15 per).
Better concern is why Ind. limit is only 15 per angler.
