Anyone fish with smaller size line, 2 or 4 lb test for perch and do you find a difference in the catching with it?

I'm not sure if it makes a big difference unless they are being really finicky. There are an awful lot of them that are caught on the clunky perch rigs with wire spreaders and heavy line. That being said, it would certainly be more fun to catch them on ultralight

Along those lines I was wondering what is the best way to attach your main line to the perch rig you use? Is it best to use a light swivel or tie directly to the rig? It seems perch can really be finicky biters.

I luv the drop shot rig with a swivel and clevis so I can change my whole rig out if I need to change the color to what's hitting.

I make my own three way rigs or perch rigs I’ve tried using 4 lb and I feel the line is way too thin b cuz it tangles all up instead over the winter or early spring usually the Walmarts will have fluorocarbon fishing line dirt cheap!!! So I tie all my perch rigs with it and on the end I’ll tie a barrel swivel to keep my line from twisting up just to be safe.. I use all my fluorocarbon line for all my panfish set ups crappies perch gills it may be over kill… but I don’t mind spending an extra minute to tie a piece of leader.

Myself I prefer small braided line. No stretch when you have to go deeper in the water column.
