Like most everyone yesterday I fished basically in 45 fow and covered a lot of water from the end of the USS landfill to the Port of Indiana. Two things make me pronounce it to be summertime on Lake Michigan. #1) I was in shirtsleeves from start to finish. #2) When the third bite of the morning occurred, I knew it wasn't another coho. I was running one of Split's "color-change" J-13s on a 100 copper following my big planer board. It wasn't a tentative release! The rod bent down and in a second, the line pulled from the release. Instantly the drag started burning off line. I was sure it was a steelie or king, at least for the first five minutes or so. Then I started questioning the guess and in another 10 minutes I saw the tell-tale olive sided slab rotating just under the surface.
The first gaspergoo of the season! And what a fish. Before releasing it to make someone else's day, we scaled it at 16 1/2 pounds.

That thing is a beast. Happy customer I bet!

Thats a heck of a drum! Caught our first drum yesterday as well... and picked up a couple water fleas as well. Ugh. Hope they aren't bad this year

That is a big drum... bet it was fun to catch...

I heard you talking about it on the radio and never heard of it before. We were wondering what kind of fish it was (i've heard of Drum not the G). Nice fish either way.
