Before trying to get on some Perch we ran a 6 rod spread outside the MC peir head early. We had 2 Kings pretty quick then one shaker shortly after. Gave it another 1/2 hr and decided to try for Perch. Well there were fish but it was dink city at each spot we tried. Nice morning on the lake!

One hit a green fly behind a Spin Dr on a diver set back 65’ on a 3 setting. The other hit a bloody nose spoon on a rigger down 25. The small one hit a NBK spoon on a rigger down 30. All standard sized spoons.

Really clean looking fish, both have adipose fins. Were they coho or kings? Did they have eggs/milt sacks in them. Almost looks like they could be immature wild kings from the picture. Looks like you had a nice morning out there.

Pretty sure they are wild Kings. They were both full of eggs and empty stomachs. Initially thought Coho by the size but they have the spots, pretty black mouths and the anal fin indicates King to me. It was fun.

Nice catch. We were debating on trolling for a bit before going for perch but decided to just go for perch right off the bat. Didn’t catch a single one til after 10 so it looks like we should have started out trolling.

Looked like there were quite a few boats trolling in tight out there this morning.

Scoffer,

Did you get any keepers or jumbos? We’re you fishing in front of Baldy for a while?

Yeah we were in front of Baldy for a bit, pretty much drifted from there to Black Ditch and maybe another 1/2 mile more to the west most of the day. Might have crossed paths?

We screwed up and left the perch basket in the dock box this morning so when we got our first perch around 10 we just tossed it back thinking we’d call it quits soon. Actually tossed our best two fish back before we started keeping em in a soft side cooler. Best fish of the day was about 12” but got tossed because of our low numbers and lack of basket... kept 4 fish that were about 10” and a couple dinks that swallowed the hook and were gonna be seagull food.

What size counts as jumbo? I figured over 12”? If I’m right then no, no jumbos sadly.

Assuming the boat in the picture is yours I think I saw you. My boat is a blue Lund and I checked out the black ditch area around 9:00 -9:30. Didn’t see anything so I went east to see what was over there. I don’t know if there is a defined size for a jumbo but certainly an12” plus would qualify in my mind. We may have had a couple fish we could clean but after catching many dinks and knowing we were leaving soon they went from the livewell back into the lake. I have a 10 fish minimum for cleaning panfish. Lol
