Taking my boy (24) out first light Monday morning out of Burns Ditch planning to cast the discharge at Gary Light. Shakedown trip for the boat of course. Anyone else going to be out in that area Monday morning? First trip out for the year. You just never know if you'll have an unexpected problem with the boat. If it was a weekend there are always other boats around so help is a shout or hand wave away. It would be great to have a cell number to holler out to in the worst case. Safety first!

A marine radio is a real good idea. The newer ones have lots of good improvements on them. Brings a great peace of mind when on the lake. Who knows you might even pick up on some fishing tips.

Sorry have to work - did my shakedown this afternoon but didnt put any fish in the boat. I would not go first light this time of year unless you are on a time restriction. Even the charters are not heading out until like 8 am.

#1) you can be set up with a marine radio and antenna for less than $150 bucks. Don't leave port without it.
#2) There's a coast guard app you can put on your phone. Punch it and the call will put you in touch with them. It's free.
