Hey guys I spoke to Jay Wesley of the MDNR today. He gave me a email response about the current year spawn.

Too early to tell right now Tim. I am optimistic that we had a good number of adults spawning this spring in our ports. The water temperatures are starting to come up and the lake is starting to stratify, which will all help the survival of this year class. We will not know for sure until the fall acoustic and trawl surveys are completed in September.

Natural reproduction was down the last two years perhaps from previous low waters and hard winters. This along with the Chinook stocking cuts has us at a pretty low number of adult Chinooks right now. This is a good thing if we are going to get a good alewife year class.

One can only hope to see the numbers go up on Chinooks and Cohos. I've been fishing the lake since April of 1968. We've had ups and downs in the past. I'm hoping the four surrounding states work together for the benefit of the fisherie as well as those of us who like to fish. A good fisherie will generate revenue. I hope they see that. Gas, food.lodging, charters, boat purchases, ramp and dock fees, tackle & gear purchades all add up.
