TOPIC:

This was our first time fishing out of Portage. We started setting up as soon as we got out of the ditch around 6:30 am and had a pull back almost instantly on a blue and silver J-9, we missed that one and continued West with no luck so we doubled back and worked the mud line outside of the ditch where we picked up 6 cohos with a couple more misses. The bite there died off so we headed East and didn’t have another hit until we got near the the green bouy east of the Port. We had a downrigger release but it was a swing and a miss. Almost immediately a board took off and we put that one in the cooler. We ended up catching 8 Cohos around the bouy and 14 for 18 for the day. Not bad for a couple of old newbies on a tough windy day. Surprisingly we caught 4 or 5 fish on the downriggers with DW spoons. The rest on body baits behind boards 40-60 back. Anything yellow/green seemed to work later in the morning into the early afternoon. I’ve attached a bloody cooler picture for BNature
