Launched around 5:30 and headed straight to the port.  Trolled in front back and forth and didn’t get touched until coming back towards the ditch where we picked up a small coho and a shaker king.  This was probably for the first two/three hours.

We had covered a lot of ground already so decided to make a move to the skinny water along the beach.  Within our first past heading westward at ~2.8 gps in 8-12 fow we had a pass of five quality sized fish within an hour including a five pound brown that we threw back.  The riggers were set at about 6-8 ft and I kept the free sliders on just for kicks.  Got to watch a spoon 1ft down 10 ft behind the prop get hit by a coho….crazy stuff.  Went around another pass and ended on a double + a shaker next to the mouth in 12 fow.

As far as baits, spoons and body baits out performed the dodger flies 8 to 1.  Can’t say much about the other boats circling the mouth but I didn’t see a net dip all day.  Overall a sweet experience to do something different and put a successful program together on a tough day.

Never seen a red rainbow.  Cooler pic for BN.

Thanks for the report, sounds like you made a good move going shallower! Also nice to see another fellow big board user! I personally think they are more fun to run and fish!

Trying out the big boards for the first time this year.  They are unparalleled for fighting fish, especially with downsized rods/reels/line.  Still getting the hang of setting them up quickly but there is reward for sure.

Definately a learning curve but once you get the hang of them it's awesome and like you said, the fighting the fish part is the main reason I love to run them. Plus it seemed I was always losing my offshore boards and having to circle back for them. That was another PITA.

Good luck!!

PS - one tip I found out, I have amish outfitter boards and they are great but I quit using the snubber that came with them, my boards ran too far back with the snubber, without it the board pull harder and run further out for better spread.
