I've never fished out of Portage or East Chicago but definitely considering it next week. My question is where is the Hump located?

I've look on my map not sure I've found it. Can someone give me the lat/lon numbers to get me close?

To my knowledge there is no one hump that's prominent enough to be named, "the hump."  There are dozens of humps starting near the end of the Cliffs (Inland) steelmill  and extending on north and east out into Illinois. 

Some charts show this area as the Indiana Shoals. Check your chart plotter and you'll see where the contour lines go all squiggly. 

If you want to go deep into the weeds about this, here it is. The natural lake currents much of the year runs clockwise around the lake.  As it flows south down the Michigan side, flows west along the Indiana shore and somewhat dissapates as it heads on north into Illinois. The current carries sand from Michigan but as the current decreases, the sand drops out and over the last 10,000 years this has created a huge sandbar or shoals area with gently undulating bottom. The edge of the sandbar is quite abrupt in some areas dropping 10 to 20 feet in some areas. I would guess the guy fishing the "hump" in that area was threading on and off the edge of that prehistoric sandbar.

Also, from what I heard on the radio you are 100% correct, they were talking about an area where it went from 80ft to 60ft very quickly.
