I was over at Tackle Haven today to pick up somethings and the guy working told me that all the coho are being caught in 240 fow. I usually either fish out of New Buffalo or Michigan City. I was wanting to fish for them in shallow water. Have anyone else heard about the fish being that deep?

Yes.. But they are also back close to shore. Should be no problem finding them out of NB or MC.

Yes, what LWL said

Alewife overwinter out in 300-450 feet - and there's mysis shrimp out there too. Often there's a population of coho that just stay out in that 200-300 foot range. And then some that come in close to shore.

When we have a big blow, usually it doesn't affect the stable offshore zone, so that bite is still on even if the shallow bite is shut down. But the coho have been back in shallow the last week or so.

Back when I fished St Joe regularly that was common. Many trips going way offshore in April searching for coho before the bait shows up near shore. Usually fishing is real good and like Ben said they are filled with shrimp and delicious to eat.

200 fow in St Joe is about 10 miles....kinda like going to the tri state line area depending on where you leave.
