It has been a few yrs now . We went out of St. Joe and fished out in front and along the beaches , near shore , and caught the Skam. Stealheads . WHAT A BLAST . FRESH WATER TARPONS ,,,, They spent more time in the air than in the water , all while rippin ya for line . OMG . ,,,, My ? is this .  Does that happen over there anymore . I believe stocking is down , so I am wondering ???

Absolutely! But, from my experience things have changed over the years. Timing has changed, peak used to be 4th of July. Seems like they’ve gotten earlier and earlier. First half of June seems to be the best time frame now. Water is more clear see/hear of a lot few fish caught trolling these days. Bobber fishing bait is far more productive for me in the clear water.

We have one of our better years fishing offhshore for steelhead this year but either missed it or it didnt happen between the ditch and the port where we would usually get them in July.

It has been a good Steely summer. As far as the ones that run up the streams,,,,,,,MC had a huge run coming up trail creek this year. They came early. Water temps on the lake and in the rivers are close (60's) then the fish can and will run early. I assume the same is happening here in Portage.
We have also seen the opposite. When river temps are to warm those same fish hang out in the lake waiting for a cool rain to help them make the move.
