We fished an area that was holding alot of bait and plenty of warm water. Lakers were all over and trying to keep them off was a challenge. We started running 4 lines off the mast for the first hour and ended up running 2 the rest of the day. Mark a pod of bait and it was game on! We ended our day catching 17 Cohos, 4 Browns and 3 Lakers. Ran our baits high in the water column was the trick. I was lucky to get this pic as my phone went dead pretty quick.

Most of them were in the 2-3lb range and probably been around for awhile.

Sounds bigger than last yr. Hopefully good sign of things to come. Michigan dnr said this yr could be a good coho yr as they had a big run of jacks at the platte last October.

I love open water fishing this time of the year and I can remember many years ago in the late 90's fishing in the heart of winter and pounding fish in the same area. Theres less boats out and plenty of room to run an easy 6 line spread out on the mast. Once the weather warms up in early March and everyone is out for the spring Coho I am done by then and watching the guys trolling while I'm filling the livewell with Perch. Not much of a Salmon guy anymore but it can be fun when theres not much else going on.
