What’s standard reel sizes for 5-6-7...... leadcores? What reels do most guys use that will allow for plenty backing Incase of hooking into a big king?
Thanks!

With braid backing 300yds you should be good with 30s and 45s.

They make some thinner leadcore which will help more lead on smaller reels, but don’t know depth chart on them. I use 27lb leadcore so with 10 colors need a 55 series reel but I think it’s tight on a 45.

Rods with steel eyes without Ceramic insert will be best. Mike

Does it matter whether it’s braid over mono on backing? I thought it had to be mono.....

could be either, if your using a willis knot then mono is easier to tie it with. Also mono is easier on default planner board clips.

Braid also gives you more backing that is stronger. To me braid is a no brainer, but that is just my personal opinion.

Thumbs up on the braid! Use at least 40# but I like to use 50#. It lasts forever and has no memory. The fish fight is better because you feel everything the fish is doing. Make sure to put a layer of duct tape on the spool bottom for the braid to bite into. Prevents line slip. As for brand stay away from spider wire. I use a brand called “SeaKnight”. Excellent braid that is strong comes in many colors and can bought in 4 or 8 strand. The 4 strand is dirt cheap and great for backing. I use the 8 for everything else. About 14 bucks for 550 yds.
My Searunner 190, "Four "D's" and a "C". Retirement money well spent.

I use 50lb powerpro. Worth it to get it in a big spool.
