Hello team,

I think it’s time to upgrade from my 18yo(ish) fishlander downriggers. I would love to get some recommendations on new riggers. I heard really great things about the cannon optimum TS, but I am keeping an open mind.

I appreciate any thoughts or recommendations!

Melissa

PS if you’re interested in the fishlanders hit me up.

Ive used big jons and cannons. I like the cannons the best. Currently have mag 10s and used them 1 trip so far but went well and has fast retrieve. I like them better than my big jons I had.

I've been using the cannon mag 10s for about 4 years now and no complaints.

Have big Jon’s but fished on boats with every make or model. I still Prefer big Jon’s, no ropes or stretching, just lift the arms and bring them in and let them down with ball in hand. Don’t know if lost art but bouncing bottom is way better with the Aluminum arms than plastic or nylon arms. Another option is speed if you want to spend the extra money. Mike

If it were me, It would be Cannon Optimum TS or Traxtech.  In the past I had traxtech on the Stratos, then Cannon Mag 10 TS on the SeaRay.  Both were great for different reasons.  If I were buying today, I would probably lean toward traxtech over the cannons.  Not sure what lead time looks like though with the Traxtech currently.

Magnum Metalz are a great rigger at a good price, built like a brick shithouse but lack features especially that wonky auto stop.   One other major factor is budget.  Big budget - Cannon Optmum TS or Traxtech.  Small Budget - Cannon Mag 10 or Magnum Metalz.  This is just my personal opinion.
