I noticed some of the cooler shots have frozen milk, pop, juice etc bottles. Does the bottle retain the ice longer???

It’s not really the container so much it is the fact that the larger mass of ice will take longer to melt versus ice cubes. Think icebergs seem to last forever. Still the container shields the ice from air and warmer melted water that would help to melt the ice. Not to mention that the ice container can be used again.

It's the surface area of the giant block of ice that makes it melt more slowly. Used to be able to buy block ice at the corner gas station, I haven't seen it available for years. I keep four milk jugs in the freezer in the garage and grab two or more to toss in the cooler when headed out.. They get rinsed off and stuck back in the freezer for the next trip. Saves money and time buying bags of ice every trip.

Same here, though I use two litre pop bottles, OJ bottles - you get about half a season out of a bottle before it finally splits. Only fill the bottle about 4/5s of the way since the ice will swell. A milk bottle - for me last only a few trips before it splits and leaks. It's actually probably not as good for storing fish. The best would be to stick them in crushed ice - in, not on - or in a bunch of cubes. Most guys just buy a bag or two of ice cubes and don't even take the ice out of the bag. I'm sure a few bottles is every bit as good as a bag or two of ice.

I actually buy a metal container ( actually it’s a metal dog bowl lol ) I got tired of the plastic ones breaking, probably holds 3/4 of a gallon of water and I fill n freeze it so I end up with 6” by 14” ice blocks freeze in kitchen overnight n throw in bigger freezer in basement, but was just curious if the jugs retained the cold longer. Thanks guys

I also use frozen .5 liter and 20 oz and 32 oz for my minnow bucket , it does help keep the bait alive in hot days .
