When I was first married, my wife's great uncle's would tell me about stopping off to fish Coffee Creek on the way home from the mill or spending their lunch break wetting a line.

My family was sitting through old photos today and found this picture of my wife's great uncle with a 25# king the cought in Coffee Creek. We're guessing that this was in the late '50s.

Nice king. I love looking at those old pictures- the fishing was so much better back then with all alewife and the huge plants. Picture has to be mid to late 60s though as they didn’t start planting salmon in the Lake until the mid 60s.

Nice pick and yes those kings used to run Coffee Creek years ago when fish were stocked in different locations. That is one reason that run stopped years ago.

Not to be nit-picky but more like early 70s. Cohos came first- late 60s and it took a few year of success before kings were added to the list of fish being stocked and then a couple years in the lake for them to grow. I think the DNRs were worried about dinosaur predation....

Thanks, Brother Nature! We were making our guess based upon how old he looked, the photos it was found among, and other relatively vague details.
