With the cold weather bearing down on us I started thinking of Christmas.

This is Lady. She came to live with us from south Georgia this past August. Lady is our second Boykin and has filled us with much love and laughs.
She will be helping us with Taking off items on the Christmas tree. lol

for a little Georgia gal she really loves the cold weather here.

I've only met a couple of Boykins but they sure are great looking and the ones Ive met were friendly and energetic. I'm between "fur-babies" right now, so should you need to part ways with Lady, let me know. I'll be over in a minute.

That is a beautiful little dog. Are you planning on hunting it or going to be just the family pet? Don’t know much about Boykins are they hard to come by or was there a strategy going to Georgia?

Hey Don good evening,

Lady is our second Boykin. I was really in a bad spot losing Chloe, our first Boykin. She was my baby for 16 years. And a good hunter.
Donna and I both had dogs as kids growing up. So not having a dog just didn't sit right and we new we had to try to fill that void. We had to put Chloe down and as it happened on Donna's birthday in May.

So I started to look at different breeders and litters. I wanted a chance at a good litter and also getting to have first pick on a female. Our first girl was our choice of litter, and her litter was a 4 and 4. four males and four females. And I found a litter that was the same,a four and four. So I made contact and made arrangements for choice of litter. Donna drove down to Georgia in late July and spent some time with the family with the litter. There were different mannerisms we looked for and Donna found what she wanted. She came home with Lady on my birthday in August.
Lady is very smart and yes Don I am already working her. She is a retrieving fool. The standard for females is 14 to 16 inches at the shoulder and Lady is just under 14 in. She is a solid 23lbs. right now with some room to grown yet.
I was surprised recently at our farm we hunt. I bounced a large covey of wild Quail. Haven't seen wild birds in some time So we didn't hunt them but have been working her on them and hope they make the winter. The best part of having her is for both Donna and I the smiles are back and Lady keeps us laughing alot. House breaking was a breeze, and she is super smart. Glad I took another chance.

Great answers. What I have heard about the breed is that they seem to be an intelligent breed and easier to train compared to other hunting breeds. Are they like the shorthair pointers I like in that they are high energy dogs and need a lot of attention and play time? Let Roxie get bored she will invent things to do and at times pester me until she gets something to do.

I had to laugh Don,,,, she is very much like your Roxie. She is either 100% on or she is taking a nap. She loves to please,, so harsh words hurt and are very effective. Lady is all momma's girl. It is fetch the ball the first half hour when we get up. Donna can't get the first cup of coffee down. Lady loves the cold weather, she spends as much time out as she does in. She will find items in the yard that turn into play toys. Everything is a toy to her. When we had -8 she would just lay out on the snow and fight with a stick or something. lady does get bored at times,, lately we have been hiding her toys and making her hunt for them. Something new, she loves it.

Sounds like our dogs share a lot of the same traits.  Hope the weather improves soon so those dogs can get out and run off some of their idle energy and boundless curiosity.
