Heading up to Rainy Lake in a couple months and curious if anyone has ever fished there before. We're staying on the Minnesota side at a place called Island View Lodge. We've always fished the Winnipeg River system just outside of Kenora, Ontario but felt a change of pace was in order. Just wondering what to expect in early spring. Any tips or tricks that anyone has used out there before and done well with? Walleye will be my main target but I've heard the crappie population is supposed to be great as well. Thanks in advance.

Never fished Rainy but certainly want to. If I am going up that far I have a hard time not going to Lake of the Woods. Love me some Lake of the Woods!

Driven over LOTW, driven around portions of it, driven past it, but never fished it. To be honest, I'm not quite sure why. Maybe I'll have to schedule that as next years trip.

Never fished Rainy Lake, it sure is a nice looking lake, passed by a few times on the Canadian side. We used to fish Indian lake near Dryden. I think that Rainy has a bg Smallmouth contest every year. Also heard that the crappie fishing is good. Let us know how your trip goes for you.
