With tears in my eyes I had to do the most heart breaking thing I have ever done. I had to put down my Shorthair Belle. She was being overcome by a fast moving cancer. Vet gave her a week or so, but I could not have stood to watch her suffer. God, I feel low.

Sorry for your loss, I too know how hard it is to loose your hunting companion. They are not just "dogs" they become family. That's why I'm not getting another Lab after the last one,
just to tough. Hopefully you have a lot of pictures, it helps to reflect on the time you had together . Rudey

Thanks Steve. You being a shorthair owner yourself you know just how good a dog they are. She will be tough to replace. After some time passes I will call you and get some info on your dogs breeder. I don't wish this misery on anyone.

Thanks Frank. This happened in a very short time. And 2 days after her birthday.

Don sorry to hear about your loss. We get blessed many times over. When we get a mate that becomes one of the family that makes it really tough. The blessing is to get a dog that just fits in with out a lot of work. Sounds like thats what you had in yours. She gave you love and it was returned, many times over. The feeling you have is hard to remove.
I have thought many times over how tough it was to put one down. The low feeling isn't the correct way to feel. To have, is better then not to have. Memories are better then none. The love she had shown is not to be forgotten but to be admired.
They are not just dogs but are loving caring creatures that have now gone and await.

Don, sorry for your loss. My family has had 4 GSP's now. We had to have our first two boys "put down" after long full lives. Neither were easy decisions and the end of their lives were not high quality. I wasn't involved in the decision for Buddy. But my boy Buster was in rough shape for too long. One morning at breakfast he was on his bed in the kitchen with my dad and me, and he was having a really bad couple of days. He was going through up and down cycles with the downs increasing and the ups getting more and more infrequent. On this particular morning he refused his steamed beef and rice we had been feeding him. I tried to get him to eat a fresh piece of bacon and he refused. I told my mom and dad it's time. We probably waited too long looking back at it. I work as an RN now and have to help family's make tough decisions for their loved one's. I only wish we could extend the dignity we give our pets to each other. Keep your head up!
