Looking to make the second trip this year would’ve liked to go tomorrow but weather doesn’t look so great might go Sunday instead. I heard there’s a tournament??? Will the launch be crazy packed??? Should I find another launch??? Suggestions????

Weather looks iffy on Sunday also. Cold with a 5-11 mph north wind possible. Could be a bumpy ride out on the water. Tourney is not a sure thing yet because of it. If it goes on the ramp will be busy early. You might to wait till later in the morning to launch.

If you’re on a trailer, launch out of Hammond and go fish around Cal Park. That area will be most protected from the winds/waves and probably have cleaner water. The area between Portage and Gary has had good to great fishing the spring and typically holds a lot of fish, but you’re really exposed out there in any kind of North wind. Calumet harbor is really overlooked any more.

I think it will be doable. I plan to launch out of Portage despite the tournament. Hopefully won’t be too crowded when I get there at 9 am or so. Driving up from Lafayette. Can’t get there in time to join the tournament but expect to have fun regardless.

Good to know there are other folks from Lafayette fishing out of Portage. That's where I am located, with my boat at the Portage Marina. I may be one of the few people that like daylight savings time, since we do gain an hour on Portage time.
Good Luck today.

We come up from Indy for day trips regularly. Had a good day. Didn’t limit but got some in the boat
