Last Monday finally had a day off and was determined to go to St. Joe to see what the hype was all about but storms after storms kept sweeping through so we decided to stop killing daylight around noon and hit Michigan City and stay south of the storm system. Never trolled Michigan City but figured set up in 45 ft and troll North East till we got into something. Got all rods out and popped off a nice coho within the first few minutes on a 150 copper on a yellow dolphin. Then 5 minutes later big king on 150 copper with a mixed veg while fighting that fish, 100 copper takes off with another big king with a green alewife spoon. After about 10-15 minutes we net the first king, so we start working the second king towards the boat, we had about 50' of line left and he broke off then 5 seconds later, maybe not even that long, 50 copper takes a heavy heavy heavy fish. There were times I thought the rod was going to break, the fish wasn't peeling drag or even head shaking it felt like we were dragging a dead body. We had to slow our troll down to 2 mph and I had to physically walk towards the bow of the boat then reel in slack as I walked back to the transom to get this fish in, we joked what if we killed the king and snagged into him, but I think we all thought we hooked into a big nasty drum. After another grueling 10 minutes to our surprise we seen silver starting to surface, then we seen a weird hook set then reality kicked in that was the king we broke off and it has two spoons in its mouth. We successfully netted the fish and realized that not only did the line break but the snap swivel came undone and the snap swivel somehow flossed the 50' copper set up causing the lines to snag on the snap swivel that was open, on a spoon that wasn't connected to anything and still didn't loose the fish. If that's not crazy enough the line managed to work it's way to the bottom portion of the snap swivel without breaking and I didn't loose either spoon.

We managed to finish the day with 3 kings, a big steelie, a coho, and a laker.... just a brown short of a grand slam and a memory that will last a life time.

Great story. You just never know what will happen out there. Anybody remember kick'rs story from a couple years ago? Crazy things happen out there. Sunday I had 1 king eat 2 of my rigger spoons. Both embeded in his mouth. Its been a fun spring!

I actually suggested it and Mitch reminded me we just used all of our luck so we accepted it as a win

That is pretty nuts. We have broke off a lead line (cant remember 8 or 10 color) and the spoon, hooked the spoon on another line. Tied it right back on and reeled it up.
