TOPIC:

Fished straight north out of Portage on 7/8. With youth sports finally done for a bit the boys were itching to get on some fish (as was I). Thankfully both mother nature and the fish gods were looking down kindly on us. Set down in 75fow in the tri-state area to a nice light chop and a beautiful sunrise to the east. Lines in the water shortly after 5:30 and out at just before 8:00. It was chaos most of the morning, there was only one short stretch where we had all 9 lines in the water. Just about everything got whacked at least once, however the standouts were:
5 color with a 0 red dodger and 2" proctologist fly
Wire dipsey 100' out on a 2.5 with a white 8" paddle and purple fly (full size)
8 color with a standard Irish Ice spoon once the sun got up a bit really took off
NBK stingray off the rigger 40' down, 25' back took it's share of hits also

Stayed between 75 and 90FOW the whole time. Went something like 17 for 19 (threw a laker and a shaker king back early on), with 15 coho making it into the box. Boys had an absolute riot and damn it felt good to hear the drags scream a bit.
